Prayer Time Calculator
Accurate Islamic prayer times for any location. Supports 10 calculation methods, Hanafi/Shafi'i Asr, and high-latitude rules, powered by the adhan library.
Muslims pray five times daily: Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (midday), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset), and Isha (night). Times depend on your location and calculation method (MWL, ISNA, Egyptian, Umm al-Qura).

Hanafi Asr starts when shadow = 2x object height. Standard starts at 1x. Hanafi is typically 30-75 minutes later.
How prayer times are calculated
Formula or method
Each prayer is derived from the Sun's position at your coordinates: Fajr and Isha from the Sun's angle below the horizon, Dhuhr from the Sun crossing the meridian, Asr from shadow length, and Maghrib at sunset. Times are computed in your browser with the adhan library for the method and Asr school you choose.
Basis and assumptions
- Fajr and Isha use the twilight angles defined by the selected authority (for example Muslim World League 18 and 17 degrees; ISNA 15 and 15).
- The Twilight Angle high-latitude rule is applied so Fajr and Isha still resolve where the Sun does not dip far enough below the horizon.
- Times are for the current day at your device's location; your coordinates are not sent to any server.
Key handling decisions
- Asr school selector: the Hanafi position begins Asr when an object's shadow is twice its height (plus the noon shadow); the Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali position uses a factor of one. The default is the standard (factor one) position.
- Calculation method is user-selectable across ten authorities (MWL, ISNA, Umm al-Qura, Karachi, Moonsighting Committee and others), with MWL as the default.
What this tool does not decide
- Your mosque's published timetable, which may add safety margins or use a different method; follow it for congregational prayer.
- The correct high-latitude convention for your area (Twilight Angle, Middle of the Night or One-Seventh), which your local authority should advise.

How Prayer Times Are Calculated
Islamic prayer times aren't arbitrary, they're derived from the position of the Sun. Each prayer corresponds to a specific solar event: Fajr starts at dawn, Dhuhr at solar noon, Asr in the afternoon when shadows lengthen, Maghrib at sunset, and Isha at nightfall. The exact moment depends on your geographic coordinates, the time of year, and which calculation method you follow.
The calculation methods differ primarily in the angle of the Sun below the horizon used for Fajr (dawn) and Isha (nightfall). The Muslim World League uses 18° for Fajr and 17° for Isha, while ISNA uses 15° for both. A steeper angle means a later Fajr (closer to sunrise) and an earlier Isha (closer to sunset). The difference can be 15-30 minutes.
Calculation Methods Compared
| Method | Fajr Angle | Isha Angle | Used In |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muslim World League | 18° | 17° | Europe, Far East, parts of USA |
| ISNA | 15° | 15° | USA, Canada |
| Egyptian | 19.5° | 17.5° | Egypt, Africa, parts of Europe |
| Umm al-Qura | 18.5° | 90 min after Maghrib | Saudi Arabia |
| Karachi | 18° | 18° | Pakistan, India, Bangladesh |
| Tehran | 17.7° | 14° | Iran, Shia communities |
| Moonsighting Committee | 18° (seasonal) | 18° (seasonal) | UK, North America |

The Five Daily Prayers
Fajr (Dawn)
2 Sunnah + 2 Fard
The pre-dawn prayer. Its time begins when the first light appears on the horizon (astronomical dawn at the configured angle) and ends at sunrise.
Dhuhr (Midday)
4 Sunnah + 4 Fard + 2 Sunnah
The midday prayer. Begins when the Sun passes its highest point and ends when the Asr time begins.
Asr (Afternoon)
4 Fard
The afternoon prayer. In the Hanafi school, it begins when an object's shadow equals twice its height plus the noon shadow. Other schools use a factor of 1x.
Maghrib (Sunset)
3 Fard + 2 Sunnah
The sunset prayer. Begins the moment the Sun disappears below the horizon. Scholars recommend praying promptly.
Isha (Night)
4 Fard + 2 Sunnah + 3 Witr
The night prayer. Begins when the red twilight fades (at the configured angle below the horizon). Can be prayed until midnight or before Fajr.
